- Prepaid self-addressed overnight, trackable envelope
- I went to Fedex and they knew what to do.
- Evidence of financial support or letter of invitation from host in Ghana
- I emailed the IVHQ program manager and they emailed it to me right away.

- The visa is valid for entry 3 months from the date you receive it. This does NOT mean you have to complete your travel within the 3 months; it just means that you have to enter Ghana within the 3 months.
As I prepared the necessary documents for Ghana, I was glad I chose Ghana to volunteer in. Looking at the visa requirements, it seems like it would have been more difficult for me to obtain a visa had I been planning a pure touristic trip by myself, because of the reference and the letter of invitation requirements.
I mistakenly thought the visa would be valid for three months from the date I receive it, thinking that I have to enter and leave within that period. I also needed my passport for my trip back home at the end of December, so I had to send in my application after January 2nd. After getting all the necessary documents and photos, I finally sent in my application – expedited, with overnight shipping – on Tuesday, January 10th. I did think sending it in as single entry non-expedited would have worked too, but I did expedited just in case. Then, I got the notification that they picked up the package on Friday, January 13th. So it only took them two days to process it! With it being a long weekend for me (Martin Luther King Day), I ended up receiving the passport back on Tuesday, January 17th. So it took exactly a week including shipping – not bad!
